Bonnie Schneider
Partly due to the fact that I completed my Bachelor of Music Program at Boston University in 1963, but also as an educator (Brown University, 1970-75), and have observed the liberal arts program on the ground (Brown University) In my opinion, educational programs should incorporate the study of art into other areas of study. This is not a surprise since an ethnomusicologist holding a PhD as well as an MA from UCLA is enthusiastic about the arts. My ethnomusicology degree, which was started at UC Berkeley in 1975-1976, is comfortably located in a music department in the College of Letters and Science. I like pursuing multiple pursuits and focusing on the bigger view. It is a great pleasure teaching graduate as well as undergraduate students. I am a published and the author of three volumes: Music in India: the Classical Traditions; Thinking Musically and Music in Japan, Experiencing music and expressing culture. I also have times where I'm mostly a professor, and also other times in where I am involved in administrative tasks (such as being Chair of Department of Music, 1983-1988 and the Dean for Undergraduate Advising between 1992 and 1998, and the Chair of Deans for the College of Letters and Science from 1994 to 1998).
